About 88.64% of the total households in Delhi are living in the houses which are used strictly for the residential purposes and 11% are living in the houses which are residential-cum-commercial as per the report on Housing Conditions in Delhi prepared by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics based on sample survey conducted under 69th round of National Sample Survey (NSS) during July 2012-December 2012.

About 61.11% of the total households in Delhi are having their own houses out of which 50.44% (19.92 lakhs) are freehold and 10.67% (4.21 lakhs) are lease hold houses.

About 51.11% (20.18 lakhs) of the total households are living in independent house, 46.51% (18.36 lakhs) are living in flats and 2.38% are under other categories.

About 17.55% (6.93 lakhs) of the total household are having single floor accommodation, 39.07% (15.43 lakhs) are having two floor houses and 42.96% (16.96 lakhs) are having 3-5 floor houses and 0.42 %(0.16 lakhs) are living in the houses having 5-10 floors.


About 63.67% (25.14 lakhs) of the total houses were having separate kitchens in their houses. About 66.07% of the households are having attached bathroom facilities. About 66.96% (26.44 lakhs) of the total houses are having latrines for their exclusive use, while 21.95% (8.67 lakhs) were having shared latrine.


Out of 39.48 lakh households in Delhi about 99.10% (39.13 lakhs) are residing in pucca houses.
