LIFE IMPRISONMENT TO FOUR ACCUSED IN A CASE RELATING TO DEATH OF SHRI L.N.MISHRA, THEN RAILWAY MINISTER

The Districts & Sessions Judge, Karkardooma Courts, Delhi has today sentenced four accused persons, namely S/Shri Santoshanand Avadhuta & Suvedanand Avadhuta  both to undergo Life Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 25,000/- each and Ram Janam Dwivedi @ Ranjan Dwivedi & Gopalji @ Krishna Mohan Singh both to undergo Life Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 20,000/- each in a case relating to death of Shri L.N. Mishra , then Railway Minister.

CBI had registered a case on 07.01.1975 U/s 120-B r/w 302 of IPC and sections 4/5 of Explosive Substance Act. It was alleged that on 02.01.1975, a hand-grenade was hurled on the dais constructed at the Samastipur Railway Station (Bihar) for inauguration of a broad gauge railway line between Samastipur and Muzaffarpur (Bihar), causing death of Sh. L.N. Mishra, the then Railway Minister & two others and grievous injuries to a number of persons.

            After completion of the investigation, CBI had filed a chargesheet on 12.11.1975 U/s 120-B, 302, 307, 324, 326 of IPC and Section 4, 5 of Explosive Substances Act. The charges were framed on 21.01.1981. The trial got delayed due to numerous dilatory tactics of the accused persons.

            The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them on 08.12.2014.
